Help children read

What if your contribution became a place a child could go?

Maybe you went to that school. Maybe your parents did. Maybe you simply want to help. You don't have to build a new building to make a library happen. Let's build something useful.

For alumni · diaspora · families · companies · individuals · foundations · community organisations

What a sponsor funds

Around 1,000 curated books, about 24 metres of shelving, organisation, installation, standard delivery and setup.

What the school provides

A suitable space — a room, a corner, a staffroom wall — and a commitment to let children use the books.

What we manage

Choosing books, building shelving to fit, labelling, delivering and setting up.

After installation

Teachers run circulation. We check in, learn what works and share updates.

What gets documented

Before and after photos, what was delivered, how books circulate, and updates over time.

What's not included

New buildings, renovation, staff salaries, or delivery far outside our standard service areas (we'll quote separately).

Optional recognition: a project plaque can be named after the sponsor or someone they choose, subject to the school's agreement. Entirely optional.

The 1,000-book reading nook

One sponsor. One school. Around 1,000 books within reach.

~KSh 300,000 (USD$3000)

The approximate cost of creating one defined reading resource. Exact cost varies with school requirements and location. The school provides the space. This is our first model and it will evolve as we learn.

  • Around 1,000 curated books
  • About 24 linear metres of shelving
  • Shelving designed around an existing school space
  • Basic organisation and categorisation
  • Installation
  • Project documentation
  • Delivery within standard service areas

How it works

Find. Understand. Curate. Build. Circulate.

  1. 1

    Find a school

Choose a school you want to support. The school then provides a suitable space.

  2. 2

    Understand the space

We work out what the school can accommodate.

  3. 3

    Curate the books

We build a collection that suits the students and how it'll be used.

  4. 4

    Build the nook

    Shelving, organisation, labelling and delivery.

  5. 5

    Put the books to work

The school manages circulation and gets books into students' hands.

We'll learn from every school we work with and improve the model over time.

Library stories

Our first reading nooks are being planned.

We won't invent projects we haven't done. As each nook is installed, it'll get its own page here — the school, the space, the books, and what changed.
